Connie Mutel's new book The Emerald Horizon recently released

The Emerald Horizon: The History of Nature in Iowa covers the development of Iowa’s presettlement natural landscape, the history and effects of its conversion to a working landscape, and the environmental results of this conversion. It talks a lot about restoration of our terrestrial native ecosystems, and presents a “vision for the future” in which nature is reintegrated into the working landscape, so that ecological services throughout Iowa (such as water purification) improve in health and extent. The Emerald Horizon is further described in the press release.

This book fits very much into IIHR’s current emphasis on restoring the broader landscape.

Connie will be giving several talks/readings in the IC area in the next few months – as summarized below.
