Shive Scholarship

Purpose

This scholarship is presented in memory of James L. Shive. It is awarded annually by the College of Engineering through IIHR—Hydroscience & Engineering to an undergraduate civil engineering major who meets the eligibility requirements listed below. The scholarship recognizes an undergraduate who has the potential for making distinguished contributions to the field of hydraulic engineering.

The amount of the award is $1,000, and the scholarship is awarded with the other annual awards made each year to engineering undergraduates by the College of Engineering.

The application deadline is April 1, 2013.

Award Criteria

The scholarship recipient must:

  • Be a civil engineering major at the University of Iowa;
  • Have completed course 57.020 (Mechanics of Fluids and Transfer Processes) with a grade of A, and have at least one year of coursework remaining toward the BSE degree;
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 on at least 24 semester hours of University of Iowa coursework toward the BSE degree; and
  • Show potential for achieving distinction in the field of hydraulics.

To Apply

Applicants must apply for the award by submitting a letter of interest stating career goals and qualifications for the scholarship, at lease one letter of recommendation, and a current transcript to: Shive Award Committee, IIHR—Hydroscience & Engineering, 107 SHL, Iowa City, IA 52242.
