Hunter
Rouse (1906 – 1996)
Dr. Hunter Rouse served as Director of IIHR from 1944 to 1966.
During this time, he was instrumental in strengthening IIHR’s
fundamental research emphasis and in developing teaching programs for
hydraulic engineers. Through his writings, research, and global travels,
he established IIHR as an internationally acclaimed innovative research
and teaching laboratory.
This record group consists of 8 boxes of materials on Rouse: one
on biographical materials, three on correspondence (both to and from
Rouse), and four on Rouse’s publications and reports. There may be
some overlap among groups: some publication information and articles, as
well as some correspondence, may be in Rouse’s “Biographical
Materials” box. See also the “Hydraulics Conferences” and “IIHR
Book Publications” for materials on some of Rouse’s books. Files may
include papers or research performed by other individuals who worked
jointly with Rouse. There may be additional Rouse materials in any of
the other record groups dating from his period of tenure as IIHR
Director. Look also in the “Oversized Archives” set, which contains
original graphics and materials for many Rouse publications including
his books.
