An overview of IIHR's long and distinguished history can be seen at

13 MB). This history, told through in-house publications since the 1930s, is also the topic of the 1998 book Flowing Through Time: A History of the Iowa Institute of Hydraulic Research. Visitors to
IIHR's Hydraulics Laboratory are encouraged to study the three historical displays on the
building's first floor, and to visit the IIHR Archives on fourth floor. Because of its contributions to
water's study and use, the American Water Works Association in year 2000 designated IIHR
as an American Water Landmark.
