The IGS’s geophysics technology assists with well placement

The Iowa Geological Survey recently assisted the City of Marion with siting a new production well in the Silurian aquifer. Geophysical surveys identified a zone of fractured and/or karst rock, which typically yields more groundwater than surrounding rock. As the drilling nears completion, preliminary tests suggest that this new well may be one of the most productive wells in Iowa.
