Physical models are an important component of fish passage studies.

Laboratory models are an important component of fish passage studies.

Larry Weber serves as director of IIHR—Hydroscience & Engineering, and in this role he leads a team of talented research engineers and students. He also continues to pursue a number of his own research projects, including:

  • Fish passage—systems to help fish navigate safely past hydropower dams
  • Iowa Flood Center—Weber was one of the founders of this innovative new research center at IIHR
  • Floodplain mapping—a state-wide effort to update floodplain maps for Iowa’s 99 counties
  • Watershed pilot projects—a five-year project that will engage partners and watersheds across the state to lessen the frequency and severity of flooding in Iowa.
