Animation 11: Lateral Particulate Jet in a Turbulent Channel Flow

b) Lateral particulate jet in a turbulent channel flow.  Breaking (atomization) and coalescence models are implemented to model the breaking of a jet of water particles, whose size distribution is specified in the inlet section.  Particles are modeled as point particles with two way coupling between the flow and particles.  Model can be easily extended to model dynamics of particulate releases from a pollution source.

Animation #11 3.34 MB:   The simulation illustrates the dispersion of particles due to turbulent mixing with (top) and without (bottom) a coalescence model. Particle color tracks the particle diameter.
