| The Primary goal of this study is to characterize the uncertainties in rainfall measurements from remote sensors and their propagation through spatio-temporal models. This topic pertains to all physical phenomena in which rainfall is a key component. More complex models that are better able to represent the physical process continue to be developed. However, no matter how accurate these models are, rainfall measures are inevitably affected by numerous sources of uncertainties that must be quantified in order to associate errors to the model output. Valuable practical results will necessarily help investigate and account for these errors. The specific goals of this proposal include: i) the investigation and modeling the uncertainties associated with the estimation of rainfall by remote sensors; and ii)the study of these uncertainties' effects on the scaling properties of remote-sensor based rainfall. | |
