Meteorological Properties From Elastic Lidar Measurements

William Eichinger
Sponsor: National Science Foundation (NSF)

This proposal addresses two issues in atmospheric science and remote sensing. The first is the paucity of data in the region between 30 m and several hundred meters above the boundary layer. This is the parta of the atmosphere in which nearly all of the transport, mixing, and atmospheric chemistry occurs. We propose to develop algorithms to extract information on the regional sensible heat flux, boundary layr heights, the relataive magnitude of the entrainment fluxes, and vertically resolved dissipation rates, to name a few examples.
