Around the world, more and more people are recognizing the essential role of education in achieving sustainable development. At the University of Iowa students can pursue a Certificate in Sustainability, which provides the knowledge and skills to contribute to developing sustainable systems worldwide.

A number of courses in a variety of university departments also open students’ minds to the complex, multidisciplinary issues and questions surrounding sustainability.

But water sustainability education does not end in the classroom. As students learn about sustainability issues, they in turn re-energize and refresh the work of their instructors, and together we strive to communicate these new ideas and philosophies to the world in ever widening circles of outreach. Each individual touches thousands or even millions of others in his or her lifetime.
