Air Quality Update April 20

Posted on April 20th, 2017

Air quality will be good or moderate in the Midwest in the next few days.

Today we are featuring imagery from the NASA GOES-R satellite — which is geostationary and is always viewing North America from 18,000 miles above the surface. Here is an animation assembled from images taken 5 minutes apart. The loop has last night’s sunset (darkness — in the form of white pixels because there is no visible image) sweep from east to west.  Then it has sunrise as the image fills in from east to west.  It ends at about 9 AM local time on Thursday, and you can see front moving northeast through Iowa.

Caveat: This is **PRE-OPERATIONAL GOES16 Satellite Images and loops **  NOAA’s GOES-16 satellite has not been declared operational and its data are preliminary and undergoing testing.
