Air quality is expected to worsen with moderate conditions possible Thursday and Friday.  East winds are bringing secondary particles from Ohio River Valley.

Rain and winds from the north have continued through the week. It is a sunny Thursday morning in Iowa and the air quality is good. The forecast is predicting clean air for the Midwest through Saturday. It is a great time to get out and enjoy the break in the rain.

Rain and north winds are keeping conditions clean.  Although conditions are good outside, indoor air quality is something to keep in mind especially as you think about spring cleaning.  Check out this EPA article for tips to improve indoor air quality.

Air conditions are clean today with possible pockets of moderate conditions.  AQICN’s forecast for Potosi, WI predicts greater ozone contribution to air quality than particulate matter (PM) for the first time this season.  Ground-based ozone is formed by reaction of pollutants in sunlight.  Check out our page for more information on ozone.

airnow.gov shows current air quality is good in most areas of the Midwest (with some moderate values in Kansas and at the borders of IA and IL). It seems Iowa is not affected by winds from Ohio River Valley. Air quality will continue to be good or moderate  Friday and Saturday.

Air quality throughout the eastern part of the Midwest (code yellow) is moderate today. NOAA HMS Smoke and Fire shows lots of fires over Iowa. Air quality will improve this weekend as a result of strong winds and warm temperatures.

As of Friday at 11:40 am, airnow.gov shows moderate conditions for most of Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Pockets of “unhealthy for sensitive groups” are possible in low lying areas.
