The University of Iowa license for Symantec Anti-Virus expires at the end of June.  We will be transitioning from Symantec Anti-Virus to Windows System Center Endpoint Protection for all systems on the network.

All faculty, staff, and students with the University license of Symantec installed at home need to uninstall the application and install a new Anti-Virus product.  Below are the locations and instructions for the free Microsoft Anti-Virus product and the free Sophos Anti-Virus product for Mac.

Windows 7 Instructions

Windows 8 Instructions (Windows Defender)
Security Essentials is called Windows Defender in Windows 8 and should be on be default.  You can confirm by checking the windows defender settings.  From the Metro interfrace search for defender

Within the client, check that Windows Defender is turned on, and that Real-Time protection is enabled

MAC OSX Instructions (Sophos)

Once installed, You should configure a scheduled daily or weekly scan
Drop Down Custom Scans & Click the + button

Give the Scan a name and specify the location to scan

Go to Schedule and click Enable Schedule.  Select a day and time for your scan
