RAMAN LiDAR

The RAMAN is a scanning LiDAR that emits a pulse of laser light (248 or 351nm) into the atmosphere and utilizes RAMAN scattering in order to measure three return wavelengths, including backscatter due to elastic (248 or 351nm), nitrogen (263 or 383nm), and water (273 or 408nm) signals. One of the most important uses of the scanning system is to spatially resolve the mixing ratio (g water / kg air). By scanning near various sources throughout the course of the day (or night), the water vapor flux can be calculated.
